§ 01 — Who am I?
About me

My name is Jake Mittleman, a journalism and political science student with a passion for storytelling and public affairs reporting.
I first became interested in journalism because it combined two things I have always enjoyed: writing and informing people. As I developed as a reporter, I became increasingly drawn to the role journalism plays in helping people understand the institutions and decisions that shape their daily lives.
My primary interests are politics, government and accountability reporting. I enjoy covering the people, policies and public institutions that affect communities, and I believe strong journalism can help citizens stay informed and engaged. While political reporting is my main focus, I am always eager to explore new beats and develop new skills, including data journalism, of which I have some experience.
My reporting experience has taken me from helping launch my high school’s student newspaper to covering courts, Congress and local government. I have worked with student, nonprofit and professional newsrooms, reporting on criminal justice, public policy and elections. Most recently, I have been working with the Providence Eye, where I have helped cover local elections and organize candidate forums that connect voters directly with the people seeking public office.
As I continue building my career, I hope to produce reporting that informs the public, strengthens civic engagement and holds those in positions of power accountable.
